The mark, moving

The logo builds itself from its own construction: the grid, the arcs, the G, the node, then the name.

The work

GridCore builds and runs battery energy storage across Norway. It has to be trusted by the people who decide where a site can go: landowners, municipalities and grid operators. I made the brand, its guideline and the website through Glitch Studios, on a content structure by Børge Bjelland.

I started with the brand strategy and developed its philosophy: a balance between structure and purpose. The grid is the engineered system, the infrastructure and technology. The core is what that system exists to serve: people, communities and everyday life. The mark is a G drawn on a six by five grid, one unit thick, with fixed radii and a single dot. The colours are calm Nordic greens on neutral foundations, with names like Moss Field, Fjord Slate and Nordic Night. Switzer carries the words and JetBrains Mono carries the figures.

The voice is written down as precisely as the colours: professional, not corporate; technical but human; collaborative and local, each with one sentence to avoid and one to use. The guideline also carries a system prompt that turns a language model into a GridCore editor. It refines text without adding claims, superlatives or em dashes.

The guideline lives as a website, so the team, its partners and anyone writing for GridCore read the same reference. gridcore.energy is built in Framer on the same system and says in plain words what energy storage does and who it is for.

The boards below present that system: the strategy, the mark in motion, colour, type, a pattern made from the mark’s own parts, the article template, and concepts for cabinets, paper, posters and posts.

The brand platform: the mission, to strengthen the Nordic power grid through reliable, locally integrated energy storage, above the four values: reliability, technical integrity, partnership and long-term responsibility. The brand philosophy as an equation: a square of grid lines, the grid and structure, plus a circle with a centre, the core and purpose, equals the G mark, each with its definition. A substation and storage cabinets framed in a square, the grid, linked by a node to snowy mountains and red houses framed in a circle, the core, above the line on strengthening the grid as critical infrastructure. How GridCore speaks: three principles, each with a sentence to avoid and one to use, beside the system prompt that makes a language model edit in the GridCore voice.

Brand strategy

The platform and the philosophy behind it: the grid, the engineered system, and the core, the people it exists to serve. The voice follows from the same balance.

The grid + the core

The philosophy, moving: the square becomes the mark’s grid, the circle its arc, and the centre of the core becomes the core dot.

GridCore's key visual: the G mark and the name over a Norwegian fjord at dusk, with power lines and the lights of a village, under a fine hairline grid. The mark drawn on its construction: a G on six by five square modules, two arcs and one node, beside the idea behind it, the grid and the core. The horizontal and vertical lockups on four grounds: the darkest green, a pale lime, white and a forest green. The palette: nine named colours from Pure White, Core Mist and Core Light through Moss Field, Terra Green, Fjord Slate and Shadow Pine to Nordic Night and Pure Black, above eight colours kept for data. The type: Switzer in light, regular, medium and semibold, with JetBrains Mono for labels and figures. A pattern made from the parts of the mark, quarter arcs, bars and squares, set on the grid in greens, with a few lime nodes. A data visual of glassy bars rising on a hairline grid between two small labels, beside the figure 40 MW / 75 MWh. The photography: a fjord at dusk with power lines, a mountain lake, and GridCore cabinets on site.

The identity

The mark, its construction, lockups, colour, type, pattern, data and photography: one system for everything GridCore makes.

A row of battery storage cabinets with the G mark on every door, beside the line Battery systems that strengthen the grid. A letterhead, a report cover and both sides of a business card on a pale lime surface. Three square posts: a statement over a fjord photograph, an article with a bar chart, and an invitation to host an energy storage site. Three posters: a fjord at dusk, the mark large on pale lime, and cabinets on site, each with one line and the logo.
